What I do

write music, play music, teach music, practice music, learn music, play music that I have written, write music for my pupils, practice music on my instruments that I have written, learn my own music by heart, learn music that I teach, rewrite music because its not playable, learn new stuff while teaching, practice while teaching music that I have written,… it never ends!

How I do it

with lots of support of very nice people, lots of coffee, water, cake, patience.. and the occasional run..

Biography

Patrick Dunst, MA MMus,  geboren 1983 in Graz. Studium des Saxophon-Jazz an der Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Graz, bei Karlheinz Miklin, Don Mensa und Gerald Preinfalk. Abschluss Master of Arts, sowie zusätzliches Studium an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst, Wien, bei Wolfgang Puschnig. Ab 2004 außerdem Studium des klassischen südindischen Gesangs bei Dr. K. S. Subramanian und Usha Narasimhan am „Chennai Institute for Music of the World“, Indien. Im September 2009 Abschluss Master-Studium der Musikethnologie am Goldsmiths College, Universität London.

Patrick Dunst lebt als freischaffender Musiker und Komponist in Wien und leitet seine eigenen Projekte Tribal Dialects, Virtues, Atma (Indien Tour July 2017) und das Duo Naima mit dem kongolesischen Autor Fiston Mwanza Nasser – Tram 83
Seit dem Wintersemester 2018 ist er als Lecturer für Jazz Saxofon für die Studiengänge ME, IME, TI an der Kunstuniversität Graz tätig.

Seit 2015 ist Dunst Leiter der Jazzwerkstatt Graz

Komposition oder / und musikalische Leitung der Straßenoper: SEPPI, Das Kind das nicht aufhörte zu wachsen (La Strada Graz Juli 2018) Tram83 (Schauspielhaus Graz Sep. 2018)  No Excuse (Jungle Wien Jänner 2019) Special Olympics Opening Ceremony, Schladming 2017 (Wiener Staatsopern Ballet, Dundus, Ich bin OK Company, Jason Mraz),  aXe-Körpertheater seit 2014 (La Strada August 2018), sowie aktuell das Tanztheaterstück – Puls.

Künstlerische Leitung, Kompostion und Event-Regie für die Fast Forward Award, für KOOP-Live Marketing

Biography, English

Patrick Dunst, born 1983 in Graz, Austria. Studied Jazz Saxophone at the University of Performing Arts Graz, Austria, with Prof. Karlheinz Miklin and Don Menza. Graduated with the MA in 2008. In addition he studied at the University of Performing Arts in Vienna with Wolfgang Puschnig from 2006 to 2008, and is since 2004 a student of the “Chennai Institute for Music of the World”, Madras India.

In October 2009 he finished his MMus in Ethnomusicology at the Goldsmiths University of London.

Since 2015 he is head of the artist collective Jazzwerkstatt Graz,  and since autumn 2018 he holds a position as a lecturer for Jazz Saxophone for music education course at the University of Performing Arts Graz. 

He leads his own bands Tribal Dialects (Varna, Jazz Festival 2015, Trieste Lives Jazz Festival 2017) and Tripod, Virtues in cooperation with Impulse Percussion, ATMA (India based Jazz Quartett) and the DUO NAIMA together with the writer Fiston Mwanza Nasser and regularly works as a sideman with the  Jazztett Forum GrazJazz Bigband Graz, Emiliano Sampaio Mereneu Project, Studio Dan Vienna,  the Berndt Luef Trio (Nicaragua Jazzfestival 2008), Neighbours and Friends (Ewald Oberleitner, Dieter Glawischnig), the Jazzwerkstatt Graz Posers EnsembleReinhard Summerer Big Band.

Patrick Dunst has performed and composed for  several theatreand TV productions at: Opening Ceremony Special Olympics Winter Games 2017, La Strada & aXe (Street Opera: SEPPI. The child, that never stopped growing. July 2018) Schauspielhaus Graz (TRAM83 Sep. 2018), Next Liberty Graz, Renaissance Theater Wien, Volkstheater Wien, aXe Körpertheater Graz and numerous TV productions broadcasted by the Croatian Radio with the HGM-Jazzorkestar Zagreb.
